Mothers Day Picnic

10 May

OOPS, forgetting to press publish seems to be a bad habit of mine.  I did actually write this last night and didn’t realise it didn’t publish until I went to link it!

I tweeted late last night or at some crazy hour early this morning that was saying that all I wanted for Mother’s Day was a sleep in.  Seeing as I have two adorable little monsters and 3 cats the chance of sleeping longer than 7 would be a minor miracle.

Well I am happy to say that miracles do occur.  I woke this morning at some stage as the kids woke and wandered downstairs.  I promptly rolled over and went back to sleep.  I woke again as one of the kittens harassed the geriatric cat as she slept on my pillow.  Clearly they came to some compromise because the ruckus stopped and I continued to sleep.  I was barely stirring when I heard the monsters sneak back up the stairs saying knock knock.  As soon as they heard us awake they stormed up the stairs, along with the friend that stayed over last night.  We all sat around chatting until hunger got the better of us.  Did I mention that the hunger pangs corresponded with the discovery of the time – it was 11.20.  Holy crap – I can’t remember the last time I have been asleep this late in the day.

We dragged ourselves out of bed, dressed and scoffed some brunch before heading out to enjoy the rest of the day.  We had no plans but we did have a new car so we decided to head out for a drive to the country.  Since our start to the day was so late we wanted to limit our drive somewhere a little closer than we initially planned.  The destination of choice – Hanging Rock.

We had a great time wandering around the rocky outcrop.  First stop was the actual Hanging Rock before climbing around for an hour or so.  The climbing helped us work up an appetite so we sat on top of the rocks to snack and rest.  All rested, we kept on climbing and enjoying being out and about together.

I had a fantastic Mothers Day today being with the people I love, enjoying the outdoors and exploring.  I am hoping that we will have more days just like today in the coming months.

I’m so jealous of how long you got to sleep in. What a treat!

I can’t believe it either. I am normally up and about early and was almost sad to have missed half the day. That said, if I was up early, and with a sympathetic hangover it would not have been a pleasant day.
